Tims

Tim Horton's has been going downhill for the last few years in several areas.  Firstly, their blue berry fritters used to be my doughnut of choice up until about two years ago when then, for no apparent reason, completely switched things up.  They still had a blueberry fritter but it was no longer the odd shaped ball of blueberry studded dough with a shot of blueberry filling in the middle.  The new look fritter wasn't a fritter at all.  What they now have is more like a dutchie with blueberries instead of raisins.  The apple fritter soon followed suit to this new look doughnut.  Why the change Tims?
My other primary beef with the Horton's has been the constant and gradual reduction in size of their muffins over the years.  The current offered muffin is a shadow of its former self in the size category.  Now, I've heard something about how when Tims opened in the States, they had to reduce the size of their muffins in order to reduce the fat content of them so they could meet some FDA rule about fat content in muffins.  I really don't know what this is all about but needless to say they sure don't make 'em like they used to.  Now Coffee Time, there's a big muffin for ya.  But you have to watch out that they're not too stale as CT isn't quite up to Tim's freshness standards.

Perhaps your muffin/fritter intake explains the belief that you require plastic or other types of surgery.

However, I agree with you that:
1) TH has been going downhill
2) Their muffins are much smaller (yet cost the same)
3) They have a tendency to change a thing into a suckier form of what it once was (the decline of their cookies, employees, etc.)

cheerios

Nice post Wes, I found it inquisitive. But my opinion on Tim's differs from yours slightly: its not going downhill, its just bad. They've always had sub-par, cheap food and coffie. I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about. There, I said it.

I still stand by their coffee, but you're basically right. Their food such as sandwiches and stuff is way over priced for what you're getting. Have you seen their sandwiches? They're tiny. Then a few years ago they introduced the 'big size' or whatever. Now the big size is basically a normal sized sandwich for like 8 bucks or something wacky like that.

I visit Tim Hortons at least 3-4 times per week and am excited about their 'feature of the month' - the flaxseed bagel. However, their cream cheese has a slightly mucus-like consistancy and having tried their fall effort "the hot smoothee" I can only say "yuck." Still love the Canadian Maple (fave donut evs) and most of the Timbits.

Remember, you're not just buying coffee and donuts, you're buying an identity. That being said, I love eating an everything bagel with herb-and-garlic cream cheese with a French Vanilla cappicino early in the morning before a road trip.

Also, this comment is like a month late. SORRY! :)
